Hi,

the supplier of our external Venetian blinds offers us an option to purchase a self-cleaning version that cleans itself through the combination of sunlight and moisture (dew, rain, etc.).

Has anyone had any experience with this? Do you really not need to clean them anymore? It is quite a tedious task after all. However, the extra cost is significant, so we are unsure if it is truly worth it.

The slats are coated with titanium dioxide. This substance is currently being promoted as a "miracle agent" in the construction industry, while the cosmetics industry is reconsidering its use. It has even been banned in food products in some regions. The environmental impact of titanium dioxide has not yet been sufficiently researched.

I wouldn’t worry too much about it and would take care of cleaning the slats myself (there are now plenty of cleaning products available for this).

I don’t believe in self-cleaning that matches a proper manual cleaning. And while titanium dioxide might help to “filter” the air, the question remains at what “cost.”
