Hello,

Or would a wind turbine have to be oversized to actually generate some of its own electricity?
Take a look at Energieverbraucher.de.

Thank you, Bauexperte,

the link is really very helpful. This could explain why wind turbines are rarely or never seen in private settings.

In general, I was curious whether anyone here has installed one of these on their roof or property...

Best regards, Earl

Yes, that is possible. Some farms in our area have done it that way.

However, you must comply with certain regulations if you want to have such a wind turbine.

Hello Earl,

As with everything, this is only worthwhile in a windy area. On an exposed hill in the Black Forest, it works great, but probably less so in the valley! If the wind only occurs when the sun is down, and the sun shines a lot, the wind turbine has a poor cost/benefit ratio ;-)

What I find brilliant is that if a body of water runs across the property, you can install a turbine or a small waterwheel, which provides electricity day and night and in any weather!

Best regards
