I have now removed the cover plate from the cistern (brand: Geberit), but honestly, I’m not sure what to do next. What steps do I need to take to reseal the system? Do I need to call a professional plumber for something like this?

MODERATOR10 Sep 2012 22:15If water is constantly running, a seal inside the cistern is leaking or the float is no longer functioning properly. The float is a component inside the toilet cistern (you should be able to see it by removing the lid) that is connected to the valve via a lever mechanism; as the water level in the cistern rises, the float also rises and the valve is closed through the lever system. It is possible that something is scaled or stuck.
