Hello everyone,

I’m giving it a try here with my question.
I have a masonry heater in my house. It has a viewing glass on the front and is loaded from the back. The viewing glass is locked, so it can only be opened with a tool.
Next to the heater is a room door. When closed, it is sufficiently insulated from the heater, and the radiant heat does not reach the door. When open, the door is within the direction of the radiation (45 degrees) but more than 80cm (31.5 inches) away. In a half-open position, however, it is less than 80cm (31.5 inches).
My question is whether I actually need a distance of 80cm (31.5 inches) here, since the heater door cannot be opened at that spot.
Also, from where exactly should I measure the 80cm (31.5 inches)? From the glass or from the firebox?

Thank you

Hello,
you should be able to find the required clearances in the installation or operating manual of your stove. These can vary depending on the stove model, so no one can give you a general answer here.

That should be specified in the applicable fire safety regulations. In our case, a minimum distance of 1 meter (3.3 feet) must be maintained from combustible objects or components in front. However, the chimney sweep who approved the system should also know this, right?
