ᐅ Storage Room vs. Under-Stair Closet – Is It Practical or Just a Trend?

Hello everyone,
Some time ago, I came across these stair cupboards and found them very practical at first glance.
Now we are considering replacing our regular storage space under the stairs with a stair cupboard.
Since it will be custom-made by a carpenter, it comes with a certain cost.
Who has such a stair cupboard and can share their experience? Was it a worthwhile investment, or did it not meet expectations in the end?
The image is provided as an example; this is roughly what we had in mind.

I just wrote a long detailed reply about what the closet should provide and then deleted it.. 7000 would be too much for me as well, but we don’t know your staircase layout. Basically, you need storage space, so why not just have a door at the tallest point and then a coat closet under the stairs? I have something similar:

That was a very economical solution.

Our quote is 6900€ without painting; my brother-in-law (a painting specialist) will handle that.Is there also a plan (dimensions…) and a list of the interior features, drawers, etc.?It makes a difference whether it’s 2.5 or 5 m long (8 ft 2 in or 16 ft 5 in).
We also had a “slanted wardrobe” custom-made for the sleeping/dressing area, which I still regret today. I should have raised the knee wall height; then we could have used an off-the-shelf wardrobe.
The wardrobe cost 3300€ including installation at the furniture store in 2013 (custom-made). It was 3.3 m long, height between 1.7 and 2.6 m (5 ft 7 in to 8 ft 6 in). Painted fronts.

It makes a difference whether it’s 2.5 or 5 meters (8 ft 2 in or 16 ft 5 in) long. I had been considering the idea of a stair cupboard for a long time but unfortunately forgot about it because of all the other ongoing projects I have right now. I was then offered to get a quote based on the picture so that I would at least have an approximate price and could make a decision.
"Dear Ms. XXX, the quote for a stair cupboard like the one in your example picture would be as follows in your case: made from 19mm (3/4 inch) white particle board including materials, measuring, manufacturing, and installation, plus 19% VAT, approximately €6900."
I don’t think we’ll be any happier if we go ahead with the stair cupboard. My husband wasn’t 100% on board either, so for now, we’ll stick with the enclosed storage space under the stairs!
