Hello community,
We are looking for half-turn bolt-on stairs made of white-oiled ash wood.
I have sent several inquiries to companies in Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. We received offers with specific prices, but some included features we did not want.
From our experience, if you do not visit a company in person, the desired product is often not offered. It is very difficult for most companies to accurately convey the appearance and color of the wood digitally.
This was better with local suppliers. There we were able to choose the desired features and inspect the stairs. The offers were also correct in terms of content.
However, the price was several thousand euros higher than other similar offers.
Now I have found stair manufacturers in Poland.
These are quite normal companies, similar to those here in Germany.
However, it is still difficult to receive a clear offer that lists everything in detail. We cannot easily inspect the stairs because we would have to travel to Poland for that.
The company representatives say over the phone that the stairs will be made according to our specifications and at the offered price, but it is hard to get these commitments and details in writing.
Since stairs from Poland are about 5,000 euros cheaper overall than those from Germany, it is appealing to order from there.
I would like to ask you about your experiences with Polish companies.
Perhaps you can recommend a company?

Of course, Polish law and Polish warranty apply That obviously depends (for example, on who offers or requests which service where, or where the contract is signed). Furthermore, specific regulations can also be agreed upon in the contract.
It is important to consider where the differences and advantages or disadvantages lie in the respective warranty rights.
However, the central issue was the question: How can I be sure that
- What is ordered matches what is desired
- What is delivered matches what was ordered
(and not whether the delivered product is acceptable or top-notch! That’s a different matter).
Our fence is also from Poland, but we placed the order through a German (essentially a neighbor) who designed it and, above all, is our contracting partner. He acts as the link between the German customer and the Polish craftsman. He took the measurements, and before placing the order, we had a CAD drawing of the fence on the table. References were provided as photos on a CD or by personal inspection in the neighborhood (naturally easier with fences than with staircases). The Polish workers only come for the installation.
This means: Either you choose a product from a catalog (for furniture and staircases, you need a sample catalog showing how the surface looks over a large area), or you have a model created before placing the order (production drawing, computer animation, 3D model, or similar). Alternatively, you visit an exhibition—but the questioner already knows that. Once all questions are clarified, the order can be placed.

In my inspections, I have found that they do really excellent work. The house was full of defects (German company), but the staircase from Poland was a craft masterpiece.
