Hello Mycraft,

a note. There are now experts with 960mA and 1280mA as well. The standard does not limit these to 640mA.

I assume you will also say something about the ETS, so here’s a tip from me: describe the difference between devices (the Light can have 20 devices) and channels. This is often misunderstood.

KNX systems, meaning actuators and sensors, are configured using ETS software. Depending on the completed training course, this software is available for around or just under 1000 euros. For very small projects, the demo version is sufficient. However, this is generally not something you can casually do or learn on your own during the construction phase. There are professional system integrators who specialize in this. When combined with a powerful multimedia or IoT visualization system, it results in a home with virtually unlimited possibilities.

It is important to understand that this is not a DIY project—unless you want a hobby rather than a fully functional house. This goes far beyond the world of smart plugs and app-controlled lamps, which, as correctly noted at the beginning, really have nothing to do with a truly "smart," meaning intelligent, home.

Is there a good website with specific examples? You often read that there are unexpected possibilities, but rarely find concrete examples.

Concrete examples are:

Dubai Airport
ADAC Headquarters in Munich
Europa Center in Berlin
Vienna University of Economics and Business
Alibaba Beijing Office in Hangzhou
Melbourne Super House in Australia

These are the most notable ones... of course, there are millions of smaller projects around the world...

We have several threads where similar topics have been discussed. But just start your own thread and ask your questions.

But that would make the diagram mentioned above pointless. If I call in a system integrator just because I want a switch assigned differently, I might as well call an electrician to rewire it for me. Personally, if I choose KNX, I would like to have a certain level of knowledge about the subject and be able to reassign a switch or a light myself. Of course, this requires a significant learning effort, but in my opinion, it pays off in the end. Naturally, only if you have the time for it. Most new single-family homes probably won’t have a full KNX setup but rather a basic expandable system.

I really think it’s great how this was explained! It’s a pity it didn’t continue further!

Although it is technically possible, I do not see the benefit.
