I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I couldn’t find any other section where this topic would fit well.

We have our framework raising ceremony / topping-out ceremony on Saturday. As far as I know, the construction team usually receives a small gift then.

My question is: what is the typical price range for that, and is it usually just an envelope with money, or have you given a small, appropriate gift?

I’d appreciate any experiences and ideas you have. (Preferably things that can still be arranged by Saturday.)

I am not familiar with the practice of the construction team (who exactly is that—groundworkers, shell builders, carpenters, roofers...?) receiving a gift. The term "Hebauf" is also new to me.

When we held our topping-out ceremony, as the homeowners, we were the ones who received gifts.

Topping out = Roof-raising ceremony

Traditionally, this was when the carpenters received their first payment, which is no longer the case. However, I am familiar with the practice of giving the carpenters a small thank-you gift (instead of the usual payment at the topping out). Since we are building a timber house, it is the construction team here.

How many people are we talking about approximately?

I’m not familiar with this tradition either. As far as I know, during the topping-out ceremony the builders usually host a small or large party with neighbors, friends, and sometimes tradespeople, and the builders receive gifts. At the topping-out ceremonies I have attended, the tradespeople never stayed for very long (which I can understand).

If you want to give something small (which I think is very nice), I would suggest—especially with Christmas approaching—giving everyone a little money and a small gift (for example, a few homemade cookies in a pretty bag). I believe everyone can appreciate something like that. Of course, I don’t know how many people this concerns or how much you are willing to spend.

I've never heard of that before either... We had a barbecue and invited, besides friends and neighbors, also the shell builders and carpenters (or rather, the latter were there anyway).
