Hello everyone,
I need to get 2 shower enclosures (each 120cm (48 inches)) installed:
- Walk-in for the main bathroom
- Sliding door for the guest bathroom
Which brand or supplier did you choose? How thick should the glass be?
At the hardware store, prices range from 300 to 1000 euros.
On eBay, I find offers starting at about 150 euros (Far East seller, shipping from Germany).

What has your experience been like?
Thank you for your answers.

I hired the local glazier. It wasn’t very expensive, but it was custom-made and really high quality.

Please share the price and the size.

I got one for the granny flat from eBay that works fine. 1m by 1m (3 ft 3 in by 3 ft 3 in), 8mm (0.3 inch) tempered safety glass for 200 euros.

Take a look at a post about you. 😉 The price naturally includes delivery and installation – and minus VAT, it’s almost halved after the income tax return.

Laminated safety glass (VSG)
It obviously has to be toughened safety glass (ESG). 🙄

Of course, glass from the carpenter is more expensive than from the glazier. I don't remember the price from 2001 for a shower enclosure, but the glazier, including installation, was as affordable as the hardware store without installation – and that with significantly better quality fittings.

Before drilling holes in my tiles for a cheap door, I decided to go for something of higher quality. I can say it was worth it. Very good adjustment options, custom made including the height (I needed 190cm (75 inches) to accommodate the motion sensor). It ended up being a folding shower door with a lift-and-lower mechanism from HSK. Price was 1200€, so not exactly cheap, but this thing has to last.

For my first renovation, I bought a cheap one from eBay, but it was a complete shower enclosure... a disaster. I still regret that to this day. Nowadays, I would either go with a brand-name supplier (Schulte) or contact a glazier (we had several mirrors custom-made) – they weren't excessively expensive considering the size.
