The tiled backsplash is about 150cm (5 feet) high. The gap above corresponds to the tile thickness. Should this have been sealed?

In my case, the door frame is mounted on the wall. Visually, something should be added there.

I would have also assumed that the door frame belongs on the wall and the baseboard connects to it there. Or do you have a mechanical ventilation system and this gap is intentionally left for air transfer?

The tiles should not be placed under the door frame... Poor workmanship.

No, no shoddy work.
It will be carried out exactly as requested.

A good tiler, however, will point out both options beforehand.

And yes, silicone or acrylic should be applied there, or have the door frame adjusted by a carpenter.

We had the same problem because the tiler arrived before the doors were installed and couldn’t know how far to tile. In our case, a narrow wooden strip was used to support the door frame at the top. After wallpapering the upper area, it was filled with acrylic sealant and painted over. Not perfect, but not really unattractive. Of course, I would do it differently next time.
