Hello,

we are planning to build a new semi-detached house. KfW 55 standard, 2.5 stories, about 155m² (1,670 sq ft).
For the heating system, I have chosen an air-to-water heat pump.
I personally find decentralized ventilation (each room has an exhaust duct in the external wall) unaesthetic.
I much prefer the option of an integrated central ventilation system.

However, I’m open to being convinced otherwise! I am definitely not an expert.

Now my question:
can anyone recommend a reliable and efficient device?
My building consultant recommends a model from Vaillant.
An independent consultation will take place next Thursday at a local heating company.

Best regards and thanks

I somehow don’t believe a heating company can provide truly independent advice. They obviously recommend the products they install themselves.

We have such a unit installed indoors with the Tecalor THZ 504.

On the heat pump consumer advice website, you can get a good overview of which units deliver strong performance figures. So far, I would base my decisions on that.

Sure, you can do that. Some models have additional features (automatic summer bypass, preheating coil, etc.), but basically, the manufacturers don’t differ that much and all can provide the necessary functionality. It’s certainly not rocket science.

What exactly is the heat pump consumer center?

We had a Tecalor THZ504 installed. Our builder prefers these Tecalor units in his houses, although there are alternatives.

What I think is important to know or consider: all systems have advantages and disadvantages. The setup of such combination units is extremely important and should initially be done by a professional. Our calculations and plans come from many pages of Tecalor documentation in which everything is precisely defined. The installing technician must strictly follow these guidelines. The system was commissioned by a Stiebel Eltron employee, who spent about 4 to 5 hours in the house for the acceptance inspection.

This, along with careful monitoring of the consumption values and, if necessary, adjusting a few parameters, has a significant impact on electricity consumption.

All integrated units of this type will certainly work.

We have a Tecalor air-to-water heat pump with an integrated ventilation system.

In our opinion, the advantage is that it is an all-in-one unit, so it replaces two separate devices plus a hot water storage tank, which avoids a lot of clutter. We also definitely did not want an outdoor unit.

Our system has been running for two years now, and so far we are very satisfied. After the first year, once the system was adjusted and throttled back a bit, the electricity consumption stabilized well.
