Isabell20035 Mar 2014 10:17Hello everyone,
We are about to build a semi-detached house with a basement.
The geotechnical engineer recommends adding an additional 1 meter (3.3 feet) layer of gravel under the slab because the current soil is not load-bearing enough.
Two excavation contractors have offered RCL1 gravel as an alternative to regular gravel.
After consulting with the local authorities, this would not be an issue for us since there is no groundwater in our area.
However, we have heard many different opinions about RCL gravel. We have now asked two experts; one says it can be used, while the other strongly advises against it.
Has anyone had experience with this?
Thank you in advance.
