ᐅ Proper Ventilation Practices Without a Mechanical Ventilation System

You often read that proper ventilation means opening all windows at least three times a day, doing shock ventilation for ten minutes, etc., to remove moisture. However, in our house (timber frame construction, everything dry, and windows with trickle vents), we have a hygrometer in every room showing humidity levels between 40 and 50 percent.
In my opinion, this means I can skip the forced ventilation several times a day, right? It should be enough to ventilate once in the morning after sleeping and after showering, or whenever there’s a smell from cooking, correct?

I agree, I have an unsettled digestion and need to pass gas frequently, so in the bedroom there's not a tiger cage in the morning but pleasantly fresh air. My wife is happy too.Just don’t expect the same quality from both options.

It is NOT enough to just check the hygrometer and think, "Oh, 40% relative humidity, so I don’t need to ventilate." These devices only measure humidity at a single point, specifically where they are located. However, humidity levels can vary in every corner of a room. There was a case where mold developed in a bedroom despite daily quick ventilation (windows open, door open, cross-ventilation) because the airflow only passed through a narrow part of the room, and the air in the rest of the room was not exchanged. Using a fan during ventilation solved the problem after one week.

I would say this is not unusual and happens more often than you might think.
