Hello everyone,
I am looking for a way to install a camera near the front door so that it is possible to identify who is standing there. Unfortunately, during the new build, I missed the chance to install proper power supply at the doorbell, so I only have bell wire available...
Next to the door, about half a meter (1.5 feet) away on each side, there is an outdoor light fixture mounted at about 2 meters (6.5 feet) height. A colleague mentioned there are light fixtures with cameras (e.g., Steinel L600). I have heard some negative reviews about them. Does anyone have experience with these?
What has been installed are four CAT cables under the roof at each corner of the house. PoE cameras will eventually be connected here. However, I think these cameras only show that someone is there, but don’t clearly reveal who is standing at the door.
I don’t need remote access via smartphone while away. I just want to see who is at the door when I am at home. So, a solution with an included monitor (it does not have to work via Wi-Fi, internet, etc.) is also fine.
Do you have any ideas?
Best regards
Sebi

"A proven system: In 2-wire technology, video, audio, and control signals are transmitted over just two conductors. Calling, viewing, speaking, unlocking – with a 2-wire system featuring a line coupler, it is possible to connect up to 150 outdoor stations and 256 indoor stations. Due to the low number of components, this technology allows cost-effective solutions that are ideal for new installations, retrofits, and renovations." Quote from the homepage

StevoBrun8 Jan 2020 11:11There is the Ring Doorbell, which can be connected to existing doorbell wiring. It has been working flawlessly for me for over a year. However, a subscription is required if you want to watch videos afterward. If you only want to see when someone rang the bell, it works without a subscription.
Netatmo has also announced a video doorbell that operates without a subscription, but unfortunately, it is not yet available.
