Hello everyone,

I am looking for a way to install a camera near the front door so that it is possible to identify who is standing there. Unfortunately, during the new build, I missed the chance to install proper power supply at the doorbell, so I only have bell wire available...

Next to the door, about half a meter (1.5 feet) away on each side, there is an outdoor light fixture mounted at about 2 meters (6.5 feet) height. A colleague mentioned there are light fixtures with cameras (e.g., Steinel L600). I have heard some negative reviews about them. Does anyone have experience with these?

What has been installed are four CAT cables under the roof at each corner of the house. PoE cameras will eventually be connected here. However, I think these cameras only show that someone is there, but don’t clearly reveal who is standing at the door.

I don’t need remote access via smartphone while away. I just want to see who is at the door when I am at home. So, a solution with an included monitor (it does not have to work via Wi-Fi, internet, etc.) is also fine.

Do you have any ideas?

Best regards
Sebi

I am not familiar with the system you mentioned. My camera uses a 4-wire system (doorbell wiring). However, there are also many wireless options available. You might want to ask for advice at your local electronics store or hardware store. They can also provide a demonstration.

Do you have a photo of the entrance situation?

I will definitely seek further advice as well...

I can provide a photo of the entrance situation tomorrow evening.

A photo would be helpful... and yes, the doorbell wiring might be sufficient, depending on which system you choose.

We had a Netatmo camera, which we placed where a light used to be. However, it was installed in the garden, not above the front door. It worked quite well.
