Hello everyone,
I am currently considering purchasing a planned semi-detached house with a plot of land (I have already written about this in another topic here). My question and concern is the following: it is a sloped plot (slight incline), so part of the basement can be used as living space facing west, which I really like. However, the garden at the back faces east. That means it is level but against the slope, so this part will be flattened. Now my question: does anyone have experience with an east-facing garden? It would still get light from the south (from the side). I am a bit worried it might be quite dark. Since I have never had an east-facing garden before but almost always a south-facing one, which was practically always too hot, I wanted to ask for your opinions. Thank you very much!
Best regards,

Our garden faces east and we also have a lot of window area facing south. Exactly 6.60 m (22 feet) to the south, there is a flat-roofed house 6.60 m (22 feet) high, and even now we get some direct southern sunlight inside the house. In summer, the sun shines in all day, so we have to provide shading. From early afternoon, the sun comes in from the west. In the garden, there is always a sunny spot to be found. Only in the afternoon around 2–3 pm does the sun disappear behind our own house, casting the terrace in shadow. In the evening, however, there is sun at the back, on the eastern side of the property. It’s never dark there!! Almost exactly the same as with us. Only luckily, we don’t have any south-facing windows, but one facing west, and we have to shade that in summer as well.
And at the very back of the garden, I have a seating area that still gets sun until late evening in high summer. Wonderful.
