Hello

I ordered a gas heating system in February, and it was supposed to be installed soon. However, since the order, several things have changed for the worse. Therefore, it would make sense to continue using the oil heating system for a while longer. However, due to the climate protection law, I am required to have the gas heating system commissioned this year.

Would it be permissible to operate both the gas and oil heating systems simultaneously, each with its own chimney, so that I can remain flexible with the fuel sources? (Heating only, hot water is provided by the district heating system)

Regards

As far as I know, you are misunderstanding the situation: You are not obligated to have a gas heating system specifically; it could have been a different one. You are required to replace the oil heating system after 30 years. Accordingly, you are not allowed to keep using the oil heating system.

Thank you for your response. The problem is that I live in Schleswig-Holstein. There is a law there stating that starting next year, gas heating systems may only be installed under certain conditions. Therefore, the gas heating system must be put into operation this year. The oil heating system is 20 years old, has good performance, and there are still 1500 liters (395 gallons) of oil in the tank.

Installed or put into operation? Just have it installed and inspected. You continue to operate the oil heating system, but not the gas heating system.
I’m not sure if this will work in practice. It’s just an idea for now.

I would try it that way too. Then fill up the oil tank. The price is high right now, but this way you have price security until next year.
