Hello dear forum,
Specifically, we are building a house and have a covered balcony on the first floor (for better understanding, please see the attached elevation and floor plan).
We would like to access the attic via this balcony. However, we now need an attic ladder suitable for outdoor use. We have already inquired with Wippro, but their ladders are not suitable for this purpose.
We appreciate any advice,
Best regards, Jennifer

You’re overcomplicating it. Just install an insulated attic ladder from a reputable brand, like Dolle Bremen for example, and no worries, no mold issues.
Or, like we did, use a real door—we chose a patio door with double glazing. Now the cat always sits in front of it looking down, but she’s not allowed to go up there, otherwise she might pee on the insulation.

Since our attic isn’t heated along with the rest of the house, mold problems can certainly occur. I know a lot of (including newer) houses where mold develops in that area. So, you have insulation on the ceiling of the top floor, but not under the sloped roof? (Because if there is insulation there as well, it would reduce the temperature difference.) I’d actually say it’s not “also” but “especially” in newer houses where this problem shows up. But it’s not serious and can be managed with proper ventilation.
As you’ve planned it, the attic has the excitement of a smuggler’s hideout, and the kids will have to go through the bedroom to reach their “treehouse” ;-)
All in all, despite the safety concerns of a retractable attic ladder, it seems like too much hassle for a bit of mold concern. By the way, is your partner a difficult passenger on Friday the 13th? :-)
