Hello, we are currently in the design planning phase for our single-family house. The floor plans are mostly finalized. Only the living room is causing us some concern. At the moment, we have planned it to be 3.85m by 4.50m (12.6 ft by 14.8 ft). There is a 2m (6.6 ft) sliding door planned towards the dining room. My partner thinks the living room is too small, but I find it acceptable. In return, we have a large, spacious dining area. What are your thoughts specifically on the size of the living room?
Thank you

Actually, it’s quite simple: the couch on one side, the TV on the other. 1. The distance between these two objects must be right, 2. The sofa must fit in the available width.

When we were looking for a new couch three years ago, I was surprised that there were hardly any options under 3 meters (10 feet).
And if, for example, children want to play at the parents’ place in the evening, there needs to be a corner where that is possible. Maybe you also want to actively play Wii in the evening... One or two stools for guests wouldn’t be bad either. When rooms are kept open, the space can be used more flexibly. With a closed living area, there is a limit somewhere.

Double-check if you have considered everything.
