Hello,
we are looking for a large sectional sofa.
We have specific requirements for the sectional, which makes the selection quite challenging.
We want a large U-shaped sectional with the following criteria:
Width: 345-355 cm (136-140 inches)
Comfortable
Good value for money
Durable
Fabric (microfiber is probably best)
We also have a dog that is allowed on the sofa.
The sectional must definitely be comfortable, as it will be used for most of the day, and it should be durable, not sagging or worn out in some areas after 1-2 years.
How can you recognize good quality?
What should the internal structure of the sectional look like?
Wave springs
Pocket spring core
Foam (which type of foam?)
Unfortunately, I don’t have much knowledge about what materials are commonly used nowadays that provide good quality and durability.
Please don’t get me wrong—I’m not looking for the absolute best, just a good mid-range sectional with a solid price-performance ratio.
We have already visited all the furniture stores but couldn’t find a suitable one (it’s also hard to find with these dimensions).
What do you think about sectional sofas bought online or even from Poland?
Can you recommend any shops for this?
Thank you very much.

Gooosee1594 Jan 2023 12:51The problem is that we have already been to every furniture store.
Nothing appealed to us or had the right dimensions.
Especially finding the right dimensions is difficult: 345–355cm (136–140 inches) wide.
The seating area should fit exactly into the niche between the garden door and the wall next to the stairwell.
I found this seating area online with data sheets and mostly good reviews.
I think we will probably have to order it and, in the worst case, have it picked up again because the furniture stores don’t have anything suitable.
May I ask where you bought yours, which store in Germany?

They had the largest selection to try out, and there were also lots of catalogs for other sizes.

Gooosee1595 Jan 2023 07:42I’ll ask in a different way.
Which quality features (in the specifications) should we focus on to find a durable, solid living room set?
What should we especially pay attention to regarding the upholstery?
For example, at least a spring core,
or is wave spring support and foam sufficient (which types of foam are good and which are not)?

Gooosee15911 Jan 2023 08:15I tried to find quality features for sofas again.
Here’s what I found:
Best to have a wooden frame, not particleboard.
For the support system, wave springs (wave suspension) are best – actually standard, durable, and affordable.
Now comes the most difficult part: the core cushioning.
- Polyether foam: you definitely need to pay attention to quality, at least 35 kg/m³ (2.2 lb/ft³) density – the higher the density, the more durable the foam.
- Cold foam: higher quality than polyether foam and usually only found in expensive sofas.
- Spring core (either Bonnell or pocket springs): pocket springs are better than Bonnell springs.
Has anyone had experience with sofas where the cushioning consists only of polyether foam in good quality? Is polyether foam alone sufficient, or is it definitely better to choose a spring core?
