Hello, I am new here, so please excuse my lack of knowledge. I also tried to use the search function, but it always shows me errors. Now to my questions. We recently purchased a plot of land and are now looking for the right house for us. We often hear about KfW standards 😉. So far, we have looked into the 70 series, but I have some concerns about the ventilation system. My question is, do you also need a ventilation system for a KfW 100 house, or is it recommended? I haven’t been able to find any information about this online. The last person I asked either couldn’t or didn’t want to explain the difference in requirements. Additionally, a wooden house would also be an option for us, which could later be clad with brick or stone. What building standard would such a house meet? Is it possible to make a general statement? I assume KfW 100 would definitely be fulfilled. Thanks in advance.

I think he means a timber frame house.
It’s quite common to use brick veneer for the facade in that case.

But maybe it’s really worth considering swapping the expensive brick cladding for a proper ventilation system.

Cladding a timber frame house?
That’s the dark side of the force 😎

If a new building meets KfW 100 standard, something must have gone seriously wrong. That practically doesn’t exist anymore.
Ventilation system? A classic controversial topic – if you ask me, it’s about as necessary and useful as the electric parking brake and the rain sensor in my car.

I will probably have to install a ventilation system, although I’m not fully convinced about it. I just find the air somewhat artificial and prefer traditional ventilation by opening windows. The question is whether a KfW 70 house is airtight enough that mechanical ventilation 1-2 times a day is no longer sufficient.

And yes, by wood house I mean a timber frame construction; I didn’t express that clearly enough.

hmm… but you should compare apples to apples… do you always keep your car windows open, or do you sometimes switch on the ventilation?

hmm yes, if it’s a defect-free KfW 70 house, traditional airing definitely won’t be enough… but you can still do it alongside the ventilation system if it gives you peace of mind…
