Hello everyone,
I have a white KALLAX shelving unit that I bought at IKEA a few years ago. Lately, I’ve noticed that the white surface is gradually turning grayish, especially on the areas I often touch or wipe. It looks like the color is becoming dull and discolored, but it’s less like typical yellowing and more like a kind of gray film.
I clean the unit regularly with mild dish soap and a microfiber cloth, but this hasn’t really helped. Before resorting to harsh cleaning agents, I wanted to ask here if anyone has tips or experience on how to restore a white KALLAX shelving unit that has become gray over time, specifically with this typical IKEA particleboard covered with a melamine surface.
Are there any effective home remedies or special products that can remove the gray tint without damaging or etching the surface? I would really appreciate any expert advice, thanks!

A vinegar-water mixture (1 part vinegar, 3 parts water) can remove limescale and light depositsThanks for the tip! I tested it carefully on one corner, and it does look a bit lighter, but unfortunately, it only provides light cleaning.

In this forum, melamine sponges (Magic Eraser) are often recommendedDoes anyone have experience with the long-term effects of melamine sponges on KALLAX? I’d rather not have a rough or damaged surface after a few weeks.
Maybe someone can also share advice on the recommended application time or the proper technique? I think that could help to proceed safely and effectively.
