ᐅ KALLAX not square after DIY modification – who has experienced this issue?

Hello everyone,

I recently modified an IKEA KALLAX shelf myself, but I noticed that the result no longer looks perfectly square. Specifically, after my DIY modification—where I removed some individual components and changed the assembly a bit—I realized that the dimensions of the compartments don’t fit exactly anymore; some appear slightly warped or uneven.

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue where the KALLAX was no longer square after a self-made modification or adjustment? I’m asking because I suspect it might be related either to the assembly methods used or to certain design features of the shelf.

I’m especially interested in tips on how to fix this without having to take the entire shelf apart, or if there are known areas where DIY changes often cause distortions.

I look forward to your experiences and advice.

Anyone with technical skills can use simple tools like a spirit level and a protractor to better align or adjust the frame.

Exactly, additionally: the back panels in the KALLAX are often only pressed or nailed, not screwed, which can be reinforced. Doing this significantly increases stability.
