ᐅ KALLAX Damaged During Transport – What to Claim?

Hello everyone,

A few days ago, I received my KALLAX shelf from IKEA. Unfortunately, the packaging was visibly damaged, and when unpacking, I noticed several cracks and dents in the wood. My question is: What exactly should I claim in a situation like this, and how should I proceed? Should I report the damage immediately to the delivery service or contact IKEA directly? Also, how detailed does the damage description and documentation need to be for a successful claim?

I would really appreciate concrete advice on the best way to handle this, as I’m not sure what my rights are in such cases and how to protect myself properly. Thanks in advance!

Is it really worth insisting on an exchange, or should I be satisfied with a goodwill solution if IKEA even offers that?

In general, replacing the damaged parts is the proper approach, especially for load-bearing components and visible cracks that affect functionality. Goodwill solutions usually depend on the retailer and can vary.

I would recommend clearly stating in your communication that you expect a sustainable solution, meaning replacement parts rather than a superficial goodwill gesture.

Can you also mention whether you assembled the shelf yourself? Sometimes informing IKEA about this helps to rule out assembly damage.

If you like, I can help you draft a suitable template or text for the complaint.
