Hello everyone,
Yesterday, my IKEA KALLAX shelf unfortunately fell over and one of the middle dividers broke. The shelf is about 1.5 years old, has not been subjected to unusual stress, and usually stands in a fixed spot. The break is clearly visible and affects the middle compartment, but overall the shelf is still stable.
I am now considering whether this type of damage to the KALLAX shelf can be repaired at all or if it would be better to replace it completely. Does anyone have experience with damaged KALLAX shelves, especially with breaks after a fall? Which materials and tools are best suited for a repair, and how stable will the shelf be afterward?
I would be very grateful for any advice and assessments!

Has anyone had experience with damaged KALLAX shelves, especially breakage after a fall? From a technical perspective, the materials used in IKEA KALLAX shelves are quite durable, but a fall often causes stress concentrations that lead to breakage. Repair is possible, but it usually results in a weak point.
I recommend the following steps:
1. Thoroughly clean the broken surfaces
2. Use a high-quality wood glue and apply it evenly
3. Clamp the break with screw clamps for at least 60 minutes
4. Attach small metal brackets on the inside
5. After drying, check if the shelf still wobbles
Important: Minimize loads on the repaired area and avoid placing heavy items on the fixed compartment to prevent further damage.
In short: Repairable, yes, but no longer as strong as before.
