Hello everyone,

Let me briefly introduce myself. My name is Thomas, I’m 28 years old, and I’m planning to build a small single-family house in 2012. I already have the plot of land, which I secured given the current interest rates.

Since I want (and am able) to take plenty of time for this, I’m currently focusing on the planning phase. Unfortunately, my girlfriend isn’t quite on board with my ideas yet—I’m putting that down to her limited imagination 😉

Therefore, I’m looking for someone—a hobby architect, student, or similar—who is skilled with the right software and can create rough structural drawings based on my ideas. The drawings don’t have to be exact or 100% detailed. I’d like to use them later to approach builders or contractors to get quotes.

If anyone knows someone who could do this for a low budget, I would be extremely grateful 😉

Best regards and happy Easter
Thomas

Hello,
If I were you, I would simply make an appointment with a building contractor, and they will draw up the plans according to your wishes. This can be done even before you sign anything or decide to work with them. That’s exactly what we did. We are currently visiting several contractors, and they create the designs for us. The only thing you should roughly know is the floor plan, but you can still explore and make changes afterwards.

Hello Bluerose,

thanks for your reply. I’m a bit hesitant to bother the developers with this, but you’re basically right.
I created the floor plan using floorplaner (a free web application). Unfortunately, I quickly reached the limits of what’s possible and my own skills.

Just out of curiosity—do they also provide you with the files or just a printed version?

Best regards,
Thomas
