Hello Forista,

I am building a terrace with a porcelain stoneware covering on a gravel base layer and drained concrete.

In online sources, I often find that “drained concrete” is made with pozzolan cement. However, pozzolan in cement is said to make concrete waterproof among other things. I don’t understand this because drained concrete is supposed to allow water to pass through. So why use an additive that does the opposite? Since pozzolan cement is about 50% more expensive than regular construction cement, I wonder if it could be replaced in drained concrete when using porcelain stoneware.

Is there anyone here with relevant training who can answer this question?

Thanks for your input
Thomas

PS I asked this question in another forum, but discussions tend to go off-topic quickly, so just to clarify: I do not want to buy ready-mixed bags, I don’t want a silo placed here for the 2.5 cubic meters, and I now also know that pozzolan prevents efflorescence on natural stone, but I am not using natural stone.
