Hello dear homebuilding forum,

For my new apartment, I have planned a home automation system. The control cables for KNX are already installed.
For the panel, I came up with a somewhat adventurous idea, as conventional panels are simply too expensive for me.
I want to embed an iPad into the wall using a flush-mounted box and operate it via an app (from my research, there are quite a few available).

Normally, these apps are designed for mobile use within the home.
Has anyone here had experience with a stationary, flush-mounted iPad solution?

Does it have to be flush-mounted? There are also some nice holders that you can simply screw to the wall to neatly place your iPad. However, you will need a connection that allows your iPad (Wi-Fi) to communicate with the home automation system (KNX).

I recommend a Loxone server, which on one hand has a KNX interface and also an RJ-45 port for the network. This just needs to be connected to your Wi-Fi router, and then you can control your system with the iPad (or any other tablet).

Of course, the Loxone system will still need to be configured.

Another advantage is that this also gives you the option to control your home remotely via a mobile internet connection.

The idea of using an iPad is good and works, but I would avoid an in-wall installation. After all, it can break down at some point.

With Commandfusion, you don’t need an expensive Loxone server... an IP interface and Wi-Fi are enough to access KNX...
