Hello everyone, I am currently planning the installation of an Ikea Metod kitchen unit for a very small apartment. I understand that with small floor plans every centimeter (inch) counts, but I’m still looking for the right approach to efficiently arrange the modules and work surfaces without making the kitchen feel cramped or losing important functions. Specifically, I’m interested in how to maximize storage space while maintaining freedom of movement, and which Metod components are particularly suitable for compact kitchens. Does anyone have experience with small layouts and tips on how to best design the kitchen unit, especially with Ikea Metod? Thanks in advance!

Hello, I would like to add that for small floor plans, the clear passage widths should be carefully considered. Ikea recommends at least 120cm (47 inches) width for kitchen workspaces with adjacent furniture or countertops opposite, to allow for free movement. The Metod cabinets are modular, meaning you can optimize your storage with pull-outs, baskets, and divider systems so effectively that you can fit all essential items even in a small layout. Also, plan the area between the stove, sink, and refrigerator as a work triangle, which greatly improves workflow. If possible, choose light-colored fronts and plenty of lighting – this makes the space feel more open.
