Hi,

As soon as it gets warmer outside, those annoying flies show up again (house flies or blow flies, not sure). Having one or two isn’t a big deal, but when you enter the living room and see around 20 small ones (they seem quite young) flying wildly around eye level in one spot like a whirlpool, it’s neither nice nor comfortable.

With the fly swatter, I managed to catch almost 20 of them... and there was one big bumblebee-like one flying around in the living room as well.

We had the same problem in the kids’ room, though there it was only about 10 flies.

I just wonder where they come from? We don’t keep any door open for long (no sliding door or patio door left open for hours), no window is constantly open for ventilation, no trash lying around, no food leftovers, and so on...

At first, I suspected the cats’ food bowls in the utility room, but they only get wet food when the cats are there, and they eat everything right away, so you would notice any laid larvae there…

Does anyone have tips on how to deal with this? I don’t want to spray anything or keep smashing flies all over the walls and windows with the swatter…

I find it strange because I didn’t have this problem in the old apartment.

Last year, after moving in, we had a lot of fruit flies, even though we didn’t have anything left out in the kitchen. Since many other homeowners experienced the same issue, we attributed it to the moisture inside the house. So far this year, we haven’t had that problem.

Instead, we have regular flies inside. They mainly come in through the patio door, because we installed insect screens on all the windows on the upper floor.

Solution = fly swatter
