Hello,

Our new bathroom doesn’t offer much space in terms of size, so I came across acrylic bathtubs. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find up-to-date information regarding user experiences, satisfaction levels, quality characteristics (stability, surface finish), customer service, and so on.

Who has experience with the installation or use of acrylic bathtubs?

Besides dimensions, shape, price, and availability of accessories, which additional decision factors should I consider when choosing for or against a specific manufacturer?

Thanks in advance

We have been using an acrylic bathtub with an insulating bath support frame for 2 years now. The tub retains heat quite well, and so far, with simple maintenance such as rinsing and occasional use of an acrylic care product, we have not noticed any dulling or wear.

The only drawback: you should never leave a new tub outside in freezing temperatures. It will crack.
This was our only careless construction damage. The workers needed space inside the house, so they placed the tub on the balcony and forgot about it in the evening. The next morning (after a night with -5°C (23°F)) the tub was lifted and broke. 8-((. The plumber and tiler split the cost of the damage without further discussion.

Sorry, this argument doesn’t convince me. I understand that enamel absorbs heat faster, but that’s because it draws more heat from the water than acrylic does. If the bathtub isn’t insulated, it will quickly lose heat to the surrounding area. If the tub is well insulated so that heat isn’t lost to the surrounding air, then the steel could actually transfer some heat back to the water as it cools.

Basically, it probably mainly depends on the insulation/wrapping anyway. Do you really want/have an enamel bathtub without any insulation? Is that even still common practice?

Unfortunately, high-quality acrylic bathtubs are not cheaper. At least not the ones I chose. :-(

High-quality acrylic bathtubs can also be purchased abroad. Last year, the renovation of my bathroom was carried out by a team from Poland. The bathtub is also from a Polish manufacturer. The tub costs 250 euros (corner bathtub, asymmetrical, 140cm x 95cm (55 inches x 37 inches), 5mm (0.2 inches) solid-colored acrylic). The quality is carefully selected. Heat retention depends 90% on the bathtub support frame.
