I just moved into my new apartment and want to redecorate the bathroom with new wallpaper. On the sloped ceiling, the old wallpaper was applied directly onto the drywall panels. The drywall is pretty damaged, with the paper layer missing in many areas. Now I want to apply new non-woven wallpaper, but I’m worried that the indentations will show through.
I’ve never wallpapered before, so what’s the best way to proceed? Should I fill the indentations with filler? Some of them are quite wide but not deep, so I think that might be difficult. Do I need to prime the drywall, and is regular non-woven wallpaper adhesive sufficient, or will the surface absorb too much?

Make sure to thoroughly skim coat beforehand, and we also applied a special primer.

After that, the wallpaper goes up. I’m responsible for the adhesive and brush the paste onto the wallpaper strips. They then need to soak in a bit and absorb the adhesive.
