I just moved into my new apartment and want to redecorate the bathroom with new wallpaper. On the sloped ceiling, the old wallpaper was applied directly onto the drywall panels. The drywall is pretty damaged, with the paper layer missing in many areas. Now I want to apply new non-woven wallpaper, but I’m worried that the indentations will show through.

I’ve never wallpapered before, so what’s the best way to proceed? Should I fill the indentations with filler? Some of them are quite wide but not deep, so I think that might be difficult. Do I need to prime the drywall, and is regular non-woven wallpaper adhesive sufficient, or will the surface absorb too much?

You should first apply a suitable surface filler to the drywall substrate. After that, you can use a special primer designed specifically for drywall (to make wallpaper removal easier during the next renovation). In addition, there are adhesives specifically intended for drywall. It is best to inquire about these products at your local home improvement store.

Hello,

This is simple, and I, as a woman, have done it myself. I leveled the uneven areas with filler. But the joints also need to be filled, otherwise the wallpaper will crack. I then applied primer to the entire surface. I had already mixed the primer to white.

I let everything dry for 24 hours before putting up the wallpaper.

Smooth everything carefully and apply a thorough primer. Prepare the wallpaper adhesive in advance, and then you can start the work. It’s actually not difficult, and there should be no problems.

This is really nothing, but for those who know their way around. I had to smile at the question:

How do I wallpaper a drywall panel?

Of course, with wallpaper. 😱

Many other steps have already been discussed.

😉 Using filler definitely works to even out any irregularities, no matter how wide they are. We also applied a special primer for non-woven wallpaper and then just hung the wallpaper as usual. IT HOLDS! 😉
