Hello everyone, I am currently planning a wardrobe solution using the Ikea PAX system and hope to get some tips here. My question is: What is the best approach if I want to set up my PAX wardrobe to work optimally as a walk-in closet? Specifically, I have about 3 meters (10 feet) of wall space available, a ceiling height of 2.35 meters (7 feet 9 inches), and want to combine various elements such as hanging rods, drawers, and shelves to accommodate both hanging and folded clothes efficiently.

I am also interested in which planning steps make sense to maximize storage space without making the solution overloaded or impractical. I am already using the PAX planner from Ikea but find it somewhat confusing at times and would like to hear about your experiences – are there any tips or basic design principles I should consider?

Thanks in advance for your help!

With this information, you can choose the interior fittings more precisely.

Thanks, parpeo! That makes sense. I have about 60% of my clothes hanging, including some long items, and 40% folded. Shoes also need to fit in, and I was considering whether drawers or special shoe racks at the bottom would make more sense.

Make sure to make optimal use of the frame height with a ceiling height of 2.35 m (7 ft 9 in).

I will also plan for the height and the lighting.

PAX is not set in stone!

True, I want to stay flexible as well. Do you think I should rather buy several smaller frame units to be able to rearrange them easily later?

I believe that is the best approach. Smaller modules offer greater flexibility, for example if requirements change or you need to adjust your storage space.

However, make sure to keep the widths consistent so that the combinations look harmonious and you don’t run into issues with doors. Ideally, choose modules with the same depths and frame heights.
