Hello everyone,
I have an issue with the hinges on my IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets: they have started squeaking when I open or close the doors. Since I prefer not to replace the hinges, I’m looking for ways to eliminate or at least significantly reduce the squeaking without completely changing the hinges.
Has anyone had experience maintaining or repairing these Metod hinges? Are there specific lubricants or techniques that can stop the squeaking? I assume it’s related to lubrication or the mechanics, but I definitely don’t want to take any risks or break parts. Any practical advice for repair without replacement would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Hello Min67!
I recently had the squeaking as well, and your question motivated me to tackle it! I found it great that Lyndon55 posted the exact instructions – it makes the process much faster and cleaner.
I used a silicone-based spray that I already had, and the squeaking was actually gone after two applications! The best part is: don’t worry about the hinges, they are surprisingly sturdy.
In the long run, maintaining them every 3-4 months is worth it to keep enjoying a quiet kitchen. Good luck, you can do it!

For those seeking a long-term sustainable solution, it is important to clean and maintain the Metod hinges during installation or after several years of use to prevent noise development.
Lubricating with silicone oil or graphite powder is recommended, as these substances attract less dirt compared to other oils or sprays. Regularly checking the fastening screws is also advisable, since loose screws can cause tensions that may lead to squeaking.
Additionally, for models with replaceable parts, ensure that the adjustment screws are not blocked or worn. Soft plastic components should be handled very carefully, as they can become brittle or develop cracks.
