ᐅ How do I waterproof a basement wall?

Hello everyone! I live in a beautiful old building with a basement built from natural stone. The walls are not smooth but quite rough. For a few years now, the walls have been getting increasingly damp, and it seems like water is pressing in from the outside. How can I dry out the walls myself?
Due to the coarse surface texture, it seems hardly possible to apply a sealant to the masonry from the inside, right?

I smoothed the plaster on the outside and then installed the insulation. After that, I applied a rough render. This helped somewhat, as there is no longer any moisture in the basement. So these efforts were worthwhile.
