Hello everyone! I live in a beautiful old building with a basement built from natural stone. The walls are not smooth but quite rough. For a few years now, the walls have been getting increasingly damp, and it seems like water is pressing in from the outside. How can I dry out the walls myself?
Due to the coarse surface texture, it seems hardly possible to apply a sealant to the masonry from the inside, right?

Hello Alexandros,

Sealing from the inside is not very effective because the water penetrates from the outside and still soaks the wall. In such cases, the wall must be sealed from the outside. The rough wall surface should first be covered with plaster to create a smooth surface, and then the sealing is applied on top.

Applying treatment only from the inside is not effective. Apply a plaster layer on the outside to create a smooth surface. Then install a waterproofing membrane. However, the moisture level should be checked beforehand. A specialist can provide reliable information in this regard.

This was also the case in my parents' house. The moisture came from the groundwater. However, the walls were waterproofed from the inside. A company came and drilled holes into the walls. Then, using a special funnel, a pink liquid was poured in. It crystallized, and the holes were sealed the next day.

And the walls are dry now. But I don’t remember the name of this liquid.

Hello and thank you very much for your information, dear Serena.

I have the same problem and have already tried several things, but without success. This approach, what that company did, interests me.

I need to check if a company like that exists in my area.

Working from the inside doesn't help; it stays wet and humid. I carried out the work from the outside by applying a layer of plaster. Then the insulation was added, followed by an outer wall finish with exterior plaster.
