Hello everyone,
I am planning to build a kitchen island with storage using the IKEA METOD system. I want to make it as practical as possible, customizing it to fit my kitchen space and needs. I am especially interested in how to best combine the individual METOD base cabinets, which drawers and shelves make sense, and how to build the island so that it is stable yet flexible.
Does anyone have experience with clever storage solutions – for example, using pull-outs with different compartments or inserts? Tips on assembly, such as the best way to connect the cabinets to each other, would also be great.
Looking forward to tips, tricks, and also potential mistakes to avoid! Thanks in advance.

Regarding the countertop: If you have a heavy slab, an additional support in the middle can be useful to prevent sagging. That’s a good point – I’m planning a kitchen island with a light solid wood countertop, which can be quite heavy. Do you think I should also consider reinforcing it from underneath with cross braces, or how do you usually handle something like this?
Also, I was thinking about adding open shelves or hooks for kitchen utensils on the side of the island. Could this affect the stability, or is that generally not a problem?
