I started digging out the basement wall yesterday because I am having problems with the wastewater and telephone lines during heavy rain. Unfortunately, the connections are buried under a thick layer of coarse construction debris. It is extremely laborious to dig out the material, but I also don’t want to order a mini excavator right away. What tools would be best to make progress, or are there any other affordable solutions for this problem?

We have completed this work as well. I had to insulate the basement wall, which required excavating the soil. Doing this by hand would not have been feasible, at least not within this timeframe.

So, we rented a mini excavator. The price included delivery and pickup of the mini excavator. We chose a Kubota, which was very suitable for this kind of work. I can definitely recommend it.

Before renting, make sure to compare prices, as there can be considerable differences.

There are no more cheap craftsmen available. Anyone else is working illegally. For the job, you will need a pickaxe, a shovel, and also a spade. In addition, you will need a wheelbarrow for transporting materials.

Good luck with the work. As the Germans say, being stingy is trendy, but not here.
