Unfortunately, the connections are buried under a thick layer of coarse construction debris. It is extremely laborious to dig out the material, but I also don’t want to order a mini excavator right away. What tools would be best to make progress, or are there any other affordable solutions for this problem?

There is no cheaper solution if you do it yourself, at least not financially; in terms of craftsmanship and workload, the excavator is the more cost-effective option.

Urs1988-125 Feb 2015 06:03Hello,
We had to do the same last year because our basement was always damp. I wanted to do it by hand with my buddy. The depth is 2.5 meters (8 feet 2 inches) and after one meter (3 feet 3 inches) we gave up. Our soil is very heavy and clayey. It was simply impossible to get in.
Then my buddy got a small excavator, and after that it was almost done by itself.
Conclusion: Not everything can be done by hand.

However, it’s important to compare the offers. With some providers, the operator is included in the price, while with others they are not. Also, make sure to get a quote for the pick-up and delivery costs. These are all expenses that need to be managed.
