ᐅ How can you modify Ikea Besta units to achieve a slim and streamlined appearance?

I recently bought an Ikea Besta system and generally find the dimensions and modular structure very practical. However, the entire piece of furniture looks somewhat bulky and heavy in my rather slim living space. My question is: How can the Ikea Besta be modified or customized for a more streamlined appearance? I am thinking of adjustments such as narrower fronts, reduced depths, selective high-gloss or color accents, possibly removable or slimmer frames—in short, solutions that make the furniture look less massive without completely sacrificing stability or storage capacity. Does anyone have experience or clever remodeling ideas that achieve this effect? I am open to even more unusual suggestions that make the Besta system appear more delicate and modern.

If you prefer a sleek look, try removing the frames. Without the edging on the fronts, the cabinets appear light and modern. Also remove the handles and use push-to-open hinges instead.

Focus on the design of the surfaces. Matte white and smooth lacquered fronts often appear slimmer than wood finishes. Also, place fewer decorations on the Besta to make everything look tidier and therefore less heavy.

I find this question requires some explanation – why does everyone want to make the Ikea design "slimmer"?

Sometimes people want the basic furniture but less bulky. This is not a criticism of the design but an adaptation to individual spaces. Many appreciate the modularity but need something that appears more delicate.
