ᐅ How can I speed up the decomposition of my compost?

Hi,
it seems like we are doing something wrong with our compost. About three years ago, we had a lot of grass clippings and piled them all up. Now, when we wanted to spread it as soil, it turned out to be a slimy, tar-like mass with grass still visible inside. We also used a rapid composter, but it seems to me like a complete scam.
Is there any trick to help the green material decompose faster?

Okay, we still have a good amount of excavated soil left to mix in. We had it set aside separately for this purpose. I can easily cut the weeds at the top and spread them over it.

There is very little shrub pruning needed. Our bushes grow quite slowly (in my opinion). There is hardly anything to trim.

Have you tried fertilizing them?

They are probably meant to be fertilized with compost, so the circle closes 😀

So yes, I fertilized them with horn shavings about 3 years ago when planting. That’s supposed to be a long-lasting fertilizer.
And now I was really hoping I could spread the soil there. I would also spread the slime, but it sticks like cat poop. That’s not going to work. 🙂

Horn shavings are a long-lasting fertilizer for one growing season.
At the beginning of the season, always mix horn meal with the shavings and apply it to the soil around the plants. So, now is the time!
