Hello everyone, I have some IKEA Hemnes furniture that I would like to make more child-friendly with cushions or upholstery solutions. The furniture is made of wood and quite sturdy, but I am concerned that corners and edges could be dangerous for toddlers and that the surfaces might get damaged quickly during rough play.
I am particularly interested in how to make these pieces not only look nicer and feel softer but also be functional – meaning cushions that are non-slip and washable, possibly with removable covers for regular cleaning. Who has experience upgrading Hemnes furniture with child-friendly cushions, and which materials and methods do you recommend?
One idea is thicker foam pads for seating or cushions for the bed. Are there special tapes, Velcro solutions, or clips that hold securely without damaging the furniture?
Looking forward to your tips and experiences!

- Buy foam corner protectors
- Get foam seat cushions with removable, washable covers
- Attach them using hook-and-loop fasteners
This is usually enough to make the furniture more child-friendly.
