Hello everyone,

I have a problem with my IKEA Malm beds, which after a few years have started to wobble. I don’t mean just slight movement, but actual creaking and noticeable instability, which is quite annoying in everyday use.

I’m wondering: how can Malm beds be prevented from wobbling after several years?

It’s important to me to find a sustainable solution that doesn’t require buying a new bed completely. Are there specific techniques, assembly methods, or additional materials (e.g., extra screws, glue, rubber pads) that you would recommend?

So far, I’ve tried tightening the screws, but that didn’t help for long.

I look forward to your tips and experiences!

I will try to combine both and report how it went.

That sounds like a good plan.

Before you start, it’s best to check with a spirit level whether your bed frame is still level. You can compensate for unevenness on the floor using small felt or rubber pads, which helps prevent wobbling over time.

When connecting metal brackets, make sure that there are screw holes or that the areas are reinforced, so you don’t damage the material.

In my solution, I also used small wooden wedges as spacers behind the bed frame joints, which relieved the pressure on the screws and increased stability.

Absolutely correct – I would also recommend using metal screws with a larger diameter than the originals. This usually provides better grip in the wood, especially with particle boards, which tend to tear out otherwise.

And don’t worry about "DIY madness" – it’s often much easier than you think.

You can do this! 🙂
