Hello everyone,
I am currently planning a renovation in my apartment and have some IKEA PLATSA furniture that I do not want to disassemble. Therefore, I am looking for practical solutions to effectively protect these PLATSA units during the renovation work, especially against dust, paint, plaster, and sanding dust, as well as potential scratches or dents.
I am interested in tips regarding the materials used for protection (e.g., which films or coverings are effective), as well as procedures for preparing the furniture and possible precautions to take during the work.
Does anyone have experience with this? Both professional and DIY solutions are welcome.
Thanks in advance!

Hello,
the question of how to protect flat-pack furniture during renovation immediately reminded me of my last painting project. All you need are three magic words:
- Heavy-duty plastic sheeting (not those thin plastic sheets that tear instantly)
- Masking tape (sticks well, easy to remove)
- Time for preparation (because the protection only works if applied properly)
My advice: loosely cover the furniture with one layer of thick plastic sheeting, tape the edges with masking tape. Then cover it again with an old fitted sheet or fleece, which absorbs dust and protects against impacts.
And don’t worry about the effort. The plastic sheeting is easy to remove, and avoiding disassembly saves a lot of hassle.
More than once, I felt like you are really doing the furniture a favor by lovingly covering it, like a treasure in a museum. 😉
Good luck with your renovations!
