Hello everyone, I have a question about my IKEA Metod drawers: How can I make them quieter and smoother? I’ve noticed that they are quite loud and sometimes a bit jerky when opening and closing, which can be especially noticeable in quiet moments at home. Are there any proven methods to improve their smoothness and closing behavior—such as specific adjustments, soft-close mechanisms, lubricants, or other tricks? I’ve done some research already but I’m hoping for your practical experiences and tips tailored specifically to the Metod series. Thanks in advance!

Make sure to check if your drawers have soft-close mechanisms; this is now standard with Metod, but sometimes the dampers stop working properly.Exactly, if the dampers are faulty, you shouldn’t try to glue or improvise repairs. It’s better to get replacements or completely change the drawer slides. Otherwise, it’s just a matter of maintenance as already described.
If you have the plastic drawer rail, make sure it is clean and free of cracks. Sometimes, small hairline cracks can develop in the plastic guide of IKEA Metod systems, which worsen the noise and movement feel. In that case, replacement is the only solution. Otherwise: lubricate, adjust, and clean.
Hey Rahannes and everyone here, I really like how actively this topic is being discussed! 🙂 For those who haven’t tried it yet: an idea that impressed me is applying a light coat of wax (e.g., furniture wax or beeswax) to the sliding rails. This creates very smooth movement and lasts a long time. Just apply a little and spread it around – low cost but a huge effect! Give it a try and feel free to share your experience. Good luck! 👍
