Hello everyone,
I am planning to equip my IKEA Platsa furniture with integrated LED lights to improve both lighting and atmosphere. Since the PLATSA units are quite modular and open in design, I am looking for durable yet as discreet as possible LED modules or strips that I can install inside or along the edges of the furniture. My main priorities are:
- Easy integration without major modifications to the furniture
- Preferably warm white or dimmable LEDs to adjust the lighting mood
- Power supply and wiring concealed and neatly arranged as much as possible
Does anyone have experience or tips on which LED systems work particularly well or how to install them professionally and practically? Are there any special mounting tips for the PLATSA cabinets? I would appreciate any advice and recommendations, including sources for suitable materials.
Thanks in advance!

Also, I’m wondering if it’s worth using a professional cable management system or if simple DIY solutions are sufficient? That largely depends on your expectations regarding appearance and functionality. Professional systems offer:
- Better integration with furniture profiles
- Reusability and neat clamps
- Protection against abrasion and tangling
DIY solutions (e.g., simple cable ties, self-adhesive channels) are cheaper and work well if applied carefully. However, they may be less visually appealing and often less flexible when making changes.
If you plan to modify things later, I’d recommend a more modular system. For permanent installations, simple channels and adhesive tape are usually adequate.
