Hello everyone,
Some time ago, I bought the popular Malm furniture from IKEA, but I have become a bit concerned about the many small scratches forming on the surfaces. My question is: How can I better protect Malm furniture against scratches? I would like to know which proven methods exist to make the surface more durable and resistant to everyday wear, without changing its appearance or restricting its use. Are there special care products, protective films, or other tips you would recommend? Additionally, it would be helpful to know how to treat the furniture preventively before any actual damage occurs. Thanks in advance for your answers!

Furniture polishes designed specifically for veneered or coated surfacesIn general, caution is advised when using furniture polishes: many contain solvents that can damage melamine coatings.
Therefore, I recommend using a silicone-free care spray specifically made for plastics and composite materials. These products provide a protective layer that improves the surface’s mechanical properties.
Additionally, avoid placing sharp or hard objects directly on Malm furniture without padding to minimize microcracks.
An important note: if you use protective films, make sure they are breathable to prevent moisture bubbles, which can cause peeling.
