Hello everyone,

We bought a house this year and have unfortunately been experiencing major issues with the noise from the heat pump over the past week. The noise level in the utility room itself is acceptable, and it is barely audible when we close the doors. However, the sound is transmitted very strongly through the pipes to the floor above (where our bedrooms are), and we can hear the heat pump through our walls. This sometimes leads us to turn off the power at night or retreat to the living room couch... 🙁

I am currently researching the topic of heat pumps and sound insulation. While reviewing the construction photos, I noticed that the pipes appear to be shielded, but at the points where the clamps are attached, the pipes are not insulated... is this normal, or can the sound spread through these areas?

Does anything else stand out to you, or do you have any ideas about what the problem could be or what we could do now?

Thank you very much and best regards

An immediate measure would be a lowering or shut-off to prevent it from running at night.

Sound transmission is difficult to diagnose remotely. Contact the builder of the system.

Do you have the entire unit installed indoors? Normally, something like that needs to be installed with vibration isolation.

Do you have another method for hot water generation and heating?

Do you have pictures of the heat pump? Is it mounted on a pedestal or is it hanging?

In the short term, raising the temperature by 2°C (4°F) during the day and setting a lockout at night can help.
