Hello everyone, I recently put together an IKEA Platsa system for my apartment and find the basic concept quite flexible. However, I am looking for ways to increase storage capacity, possibly through custom modifications or additional components.

Has anyone here made their own extensions or adjustments to the PLATSA furniture to effectively maximize the available storage space? I am particularly interested in clever add-ons, extra interior organization options, or conversions that go beyond the standard IKEA components.

I look forward to your suggestions and experiences!

If you want more storage space, you can also increase the ceiling height and add additional upper modules, if possible. This way, you make optimal use of the vertical space.

That’s also an idea, there is actually some space up to the ceiling. Is there anything to consider with that? I’m worried it might become unstable, especially if the upper modules are not accessed frequently.

Maybe this is a case where proper anchoring is important?

That is a very valid concern. Especially with tall tower structures, it is advisable to add additional wall anchors for the entire Platsa system. IKEA offers fixings that are standardized for the upper modules as well.

For custom-built upper extensions, I would also recommend securing the connections between modules with brackets or even sturdy wooden connectors. This significantly improves stability.

Safety comes first – particularly if there are children or pets in the household.
